MOBILE, Ala. (June 18, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, dropped both games of a doubleheader Sunday against the Biloxi Shuckers at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Despite a two-run lead early and rallying from behind to tie the game in the seventh inning, the BayBears were out-slugged 9-8 by the Shuckers.
Biloxi hit four home runs in the game, including one in the top of the eighth. Javier Betancourt's solo homer off Tyler Warmoth (0-1) proved to be the game-winner. Michael Choice, Jacob Nottingham, and Angel Ortega also went deep earlier in the game.
Sherman Johnson hit his first home run with the BayBears in the bottom of the second, capping a four-run inning. The BayBears erased an early 2-0 deficit, but the Shuckers tied the game again with two more runs in the third.
David Fletcher and Michael Hermosillo both had three-hit games. Hermosillo hit a two-run triple with two outs in the seventh to tie the game 8-8.
The BayBears (30-39) were blanked 1-0 by the Shuckers (36-33) in the series finale.
Both starting pitchers, Grayson Long and Bubba Derby, had scoreless outings but did not factor in the decision. Long notched a quality start, going six innings and striking out six batters.
The Shuckers were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position before Blake Allemand hit an RBI double down the right field line with two outs in the top of the seventh. Wendell Rijo scored the only run of the game.
Fletcher recorded his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. However, the BayBears left nine men on base in the loss.
