BayBears Hang On for 3-2 Win

Court Blast the Difference in Pensacola
July 30, 2013

PENSACOLA, FL - After being shut out in back-to-back ballgames, the Mobile BayBears built a 3-1 lead through 3 innings on Tuesday night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, and held on for a 3-2 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

The Wahoos got on the board first with a run on three hits in the bottom of the 1st, but the BayBears responded quickly, breaking a 21-inning scoring drought in the top of the 2nd.

Dustin Martin led off the 2nd with a double, and he moved to third on a Mike Freeman single before scoring on a Rossmel Perez groundout to first that tied the game 1-1.

Mobile went ahead for good in the 3rd, as a two-out rally started with a single from the Southern League's leading hitter, Justin Greene. He stole second, and scored two batters later on Martin's second hit in as many innings, putting the BayBears up 2-1. Ryan Court extended the lead to 3-1 with his first home run as a BayBear leading off the 4th, and that would be all the support that Bo Schultz needed.

The right-hander Schultz went 7 innings for the third consecutive outing, holding the Blue Wahoos to two runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out five. He improves to 4-2 with the victory.

With Tuesday's victory, the BayBears have won the Bay-to-Bay season series, leading the Wahoos 13 games to five with seven contests remaining.

The final game of the month of July will have former Wahoo Mark Serrano (4-0, 2.18) on the mound for Mobile opposite Josh Smith (8-8, 3.86) for Pensacola. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 CT, and the game can be heard live on baybearsradio.com.
