BayBears Hire Justin Baker as 2014 Broadcaster

March 21, 2014

MOBILE, AL. -- The Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball Club, Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, have announced the hiring of Justin Baker as the team's new Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations for the 2014 season.

Baker enters his second season of professional baseball broadcasting, and his second in the Southern League. He spent the 2012 season as the BayBears Broadcast Assistant working on Justin Shackil's broadcast team, hosting the team's pre- and post-game shows and as a play-by-play announcer. From 2008-2012, Baker provided play-by-play and served as a television personality for the Georgia Southern University Eagles. Over his four years there, Baker called baseball, volleyball, softball and men and women's basketball.

"The BayBears organization is very excited to have Justin Baker rejoin our team for the 2014 season!," BayBears Vice President, Mike Gorrasi said. "Justin understands and has a great appreciation for the BayBears and the Mobile community. He will bring a new energy and excitement to every broadcast as "The Voice of the BayBears" on the BayBears Broadcast Network".

Baker fills the vacancy left by Craig Durham, who served as the team's broadcaster during the 2013 campaign.

"I am delighted to rejoin the BayBears organization," Baker said. "Mobile is a wonderful city rich in baseball traditions and the Southern League is a very unique and special place in Minor League Baseball. I am delighted to rejoin the league, the BayBears staff and the Mobile community. I hope to bring BayBears fans a very enjoyable listening experience in 2014."

Baker will call all 140 games of the BayBears regular season. Each game can be heard online using a computer or mobile device at BayBearsRadio.com. Fans can follow Baker on Twitter @BakerBroadcast and follow the team @Mobile_BayBears.

The three time defending Southern League South Division champion Mobile BayBears begin the 2014 season on the road April 3, against the Mississippi Braves. The BayBears open the gates to Hank Aaron Stadium for the first time this season on Wednesday, April 9 against the Montgomery Biscuits for the first of 10 straight home games.
