BayBears Win Seventh Straight, 4-3 Over Smokies

Trailing 3-0 after Six, BayBears Come Roaring Back
August 24, 2013

KODAK, TN - The Mobile BayBears could muster no offense through the first six innings on Saturday night, but plated two in the 7th and two more in the 8th to steal a 4-3 victory away from the Tennesse Smokies in front of a sell-out crowd of 6,132 at Smokies Park.

Bradin Hagens came out of the gate wild, walking three Smokies in the 1st, but escaped trailing 1-0 having allowed just a sacrifice fly. Tennessee added to their lead in with two runs on back-to-back solo home runs in the 3rd, however, and carried their 3-0 advantage all the way into the 7th.

Smokies starter Dae-Eun Rhee was lifted from the game with two on and one-out in the top of the 7th, and his replacement Tony Zych did not have the answer for the suddenly free-swinging BayBears. An infield single for Ender Inciarte loaded the bases with two outs, and Nick Ahmed got Mobile on the board with a two-run opposite field single to right.

Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the 8th, the BayBears came out aggressive in the 8th, plating 2 two runs on four straight hits before an out had been recorded. Ryan Court tied the game with a single, and Mike Freeman put Mobile ahead for good with his single into left.

Four BayBears relievers combined to no-hit the Smokies through the game's final four frames, and Jake Barrett earned his second save in as many nights with a 1-2-3 9th

The win improves the BayBears to a league best 74-57 and they head into Sunday's action just a half game behind the Jacksonville Suns in the South Division 2nd half standings.

Archie Bradley (10-5, 2.07) will toe the slab for Mobile opposite Nick Struck (0-1, 3.86) for Tennessee with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 CT. All the action can be heard live on baybearsradio.com.
