Deja Blue - Wahoos Shut Out BayBears Again

Mobile's Scoring Drought Reaches 20 Innings
July 29, 2013

PENSACOLA, FL - The Mobile BayBears failed to score again on Monday, falling to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 2-0 for the second consecutive night.

The BayBears have been held to six hits thus far in the series, and have not scored since the 7th inning of Saturday night's game in Birmingham - a 20-inning scoring drought.

On Monday night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium it was Daniel Renken who shut down the Mobile offense, allowing just three hits in six innings for his fifth victory of the season.

As they did on Sunday night, the Blue Wahoos scored both of their runs early, jumping ahead and not giving an inch back. It was Yorman Rodriguez that opened the scoring, as the 20-year-old outfielder blasted a solo home run off David Holmberg with two-outs in the bottom of the 1st inning to give Pensacola a 1-0 lead. They doubled that lead in the second when Ray Chang ripped a double down the line in right to score Travis Mattair, putting Pensacola ahead for good at 2-0.

The BayBears best opportunity to score came in the 5th. Sawyer Carroll led off the inning with a single, and he advanced to second when Keon Broxton singled two batters later. The baserunners advanced to second and third following a groundout to first base, but Holmberg struck out with the two men in scoring position to end the inning.

The BayBears never moved a man past first base after the 5th.

Game three of the series will feature Bo Schultz (3-2, 2.70) for Mobile opposite Tim Crabbe (4-7, 3.33) for Pensacola. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 CT, and the game can be heard live on baybearsradio.com.
