KODAK, Tenn. (July 13, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored four runs in the second inning but dropped the series opener 5-4 to the Tennessee Smokies in 11 innings Thursday night at Smokies Stadium.

The BayBears (40-49 overall, 10-10 second half) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead for the second straight game. After back-to-back one-out walks in the second inning, Alberto Triunfel opened the scoring with an RBI single. Bo Way followed with a three-run homer, his first of the year.

However, Jaime Barria allowed four runs (two earned) over the next two innings. Tennessee (49-41, 13-8) plated three runs in the bottom of the second, and Yasiel Balaguert tied the game with a solo home run in the third.

The game remained tied 4-4 until the bottom of the 11th inning. The Smokies loaded the bases with one out against Conor Lillis-White (0-3). After a strikeout, Balaguert delivered a walk-off single to right field to plate David Bote.

The BayBears bullpen kept Tennessee off the board for six straight innings before giving up the tally in the 11th. Brad Markey, Daury Torrez, and Stephen Perakslis (2-1) combined for six scoreless frames of relief.
