Four Run Sixth Boost BayBears Over Biscuits

April 12, 2014

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come back and defeat the Montgomery Biscuits 5-3 Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The two teams were tied at 1-1 through the first five innings when the Biscuits jumped out to a two run lead in the top half of the sixth but couldn't hold the advantage in the bottom half of the inning. Mobile improved to 5-4 on the season which ties them for first place with the Biscuits in the Southern League South Division Standings.

Montgomery got on the bored first with a solo homer from Luke Maile in the top of the second inning. The BayBears matched the score in the bottom of the second when David Peralta scored on a ground out from Gerson Montilla. The 1-1 scored would hold until the sixth when the Biscuits reclaimed the lead on a RBI base hit from Cameron Seitzer put Montgomery up by one and the Biscuits took a 3-1 advantage in the very next at bat when Alejandro Segovia drove home Willie Argo with a run scoring base knock.

In the bottom half of the same inning, Sean Jamieson reached base on a one-out bunt-single and quickly made it from first to third on a base hit from Mike Freeman. After Justin Greene drove in Jamieson with a sacrifice fly, Jake Lamb tied the game with an RBI base hit. Two batters later Peralta gave Mobile a 5-3 lead with a two-run double that plated Lamb and Garrett Weber.

RHP Bryan Woodall pitch five quality innings but left the game trailing 3-1 in the sixth. Woodall had to settle for his second straight no decision, finishing 5.2 innings, allowing just 3 earned runs on seven hits. The win was credited to RHP Willy Paredes who only allowed one base runner with a walk in 1.1 innings in relief. After RHP Jake Barrett worked a scoreless eighth to preserve the two run BayBears lead, RHP Matt Stites recorded his first save of 2014, retiring the Biscuits in order in the ninth inning.

The win evens the series as the Biscuits and BayBears conclude the five game set on Sunday at 2:05pm. LHP Grayson Garvin (0-0) will take the mound for the Biscuits against BayBears RHP A.J. Schugel (1-0). Tickets are on sale now by calling 251.479.BEAR or online at MobileBayBears.com.
