PEARL, Miss. (April 17, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored four unanswered runs, including three in the 10th inning, to defeat the Mississippi Braves 4-1 in the series opener Monday night at Trustmark Park.

With the game tied 1-1 in the 10th, Bo Way came through with an RBI double to drive in Andrew Daniel and give Mobile (4-7) its first lead of the game. Two batters later, Jose Briceno crushed a two-run homer to left-center to extend the advantage to 4-1.

Tyler Carpenter recorded his second quality start of the season, tossing seven innings in a no-decision. He allowed one run on four hits, did not issue a walk, and struck out six. Cody Buckel (1-0) and Eduardo Paredes combined to hold Mississippi (6-5) to just one hit over the final three innings.

Way went 2-for-5, including the go-ahead double in the 10th, to extend his hit streak to eight games. He has a hit in all seven games batting in the leadoff spot. Way also stole two bases, and the BayBears swiped a season-high five in the game.

Mississippi starter Patrick Weigel came just one out away from a quality start, going the first 5 2/3 and only allowing a run on four hits. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk. Danny Reynolds (0-2), a former Angels farmhand, pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief and only gave up one hit.

Braves left fielder Jared James went a perfect 4-for-4, falling a home run shy of the cycle. He drove in the only run for the Braves with a triple in the third.

Monday was the first comeback victory for Mobile this season. It was also the first win for the BayBears in three extra-inning games.
