Kang's Three-Hit Night Not Enough

Baysox Fall Short in 4-3 Defeat in Altoona
July 19, 2014

In a back and forth Saturday evening ballgame, the Baysox fell short, falling to Altoona 4-3. DH KD Kang led the Baysox offensively going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in the defeat.

Altoona had the leadoff man reach base four times in the game and they scored a single run in all four of those innings. In the seventh inning the Curve broke a tie with three singles off of Baysox starter Zach Davies to plate the lead run. The RBI went to Drew Maggi who had a big night going 4-for-4 in the contest. Davies allowed all four runs in the loss (5-6), but struck out seven batters without a walk in the game.

Bowie battled from a 2-0 hole early with a two-out second inning rally. CF Mike Yastrzemski walked and 3B Niuman Romero singled. Kang then drove home Yastrzemski with a base hit to left field and 1B Chris Marrero tied the game with a ground rule double to right field.

In the fourth inning the Baysox took the lead. 2B Garabez Rosa hit a solo home run to left field, his second of the series and ninth of the year, to put Bowie on top 3-2.

Each bullpen was strong as three Altoona relievers combined for 4 and 1/3rd scoreless innings in the game. Baysox reliever Jason Gurka dominated retiring all five batters faced, with four coming via the strikeout in relief of Davies.

The four-game series wraps up Sunday, July 20th with LHP Tim Berry hoping to push Bowie to a series split. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on wnav.com.

Bowie will return home for a week long homestand beginning Monday, July 21st against Harrisburg at 6:35 p.m. Get your tickets now for the seven games over seven days by calling the Baysox Box Office at 301-464-4865 or online at baysox.com.
