The Beloit Snappers (20-22) and their dominating pitching helped propel Beloit to a 1-0 win over the Peoria Chiefs (24-20) Thursday night in front of 571 fans.

Starter Xavier Altamirano picked up his second win of the season, going six strong innings surrendering just two hits, two walks and collecting four strikeouts. His outing lowered his ERA to 2.66 and it was his second time this season allowing zero earned runs.
He was relieved by Nick Highberger, who went one inning getting a hold, before bringing in Jesus Zambrano. Zambrano pitched the final two innings and earned his first save of the season.
The lone run came in the first inning on a Lazaro Armenteros bomb home run to straight away center on the first pitch of the at bat. It was Lazarito's third home run of the season and his second in as many days. Both his home runs this series came on the first pitch of the respective at bats.
Overall, Snappers pitching did a great job limiting Peoria to just five hits a night after the Chiefs accumulated 15 hits.
Trace Loehr's single to center in the seventh inning extended his hitting streak to seven games, his longest of the season. He has now hit safely in eight of his last nine games and is hitting .333 over the streak.
Starting catcher Jordan Devencenzi didn't get his first hit of the night until an eighth inning single, but he has now hit safely in his last 10 games. During the streak, he is batting .368 with 14 hits, four doubles and just three strikeouts.
Armenteros' homer meant the Snappers have at least one extra-base hit in 28 of their last 29 games. The Snappers also moved to 14-9 on the season in one run games.
The Snappers will now travel to Burlington to take on the Bees in a four-game series. On the mound for the Snappers Friday will be left-hander Jared Poche (1-2, 3.78). He will be opposed by right-hander Luis Madero (1-2, 2.40)
