BELOIT —A three-run outburst in the seventh inning allowed the Quad Cities River Bandits to break up a true pitchers dual in an eventual 5-1 win.

The River Bandits had the game’s only run, scored in the fourth inning, as the game entered the seventh inning. But Quad Cities struck for three in the seventh and one more in the eighth to add some insurance.

A fun-loving crowd sporting their giveaway Hawaiian shirts watched as Beck Way no-hit the Sky Carp through eight full innings, striking out 10 and walking four along the way.

But Victor Mesa, Jr singled to lead off the ninth inning against Quad Cities reliever Anderson Paulino, thereby ending the no-hit bid. Mesa later came around to score on a two-out single by Kyler Castillo.

Gabe Bierman got the start for Beloit on his 23rd birthday, and celebrated his big day in style. Bierman allowed just one run on two hits while striking out seven in an outstanding performance.

Beloit and Quad Cities will wrap up their six-game series and the Sky Carp home schedule with a 1:05 p.m. game Sunday. It’s Sunday Family Fun Day, with kids running the bases after the game, and families playing catch in the outfield after the game. Visit Skycarp.com for tickets.
