To make room for Covey, pitcher Deyvi Jimenez is being transferred to the Vermont Lake Monsters.

Covey was drafted by the Athletics after his junior year at USD, during which he was one of the team's starting pitchers. In 18 games (16 starts), Covey's record was 5-4 and his ERA was 5.05. He struck out 65 and walked 43 in 76.2 innings.

Covey, who's listed at 6-2, 200 pounds, is a right-handed pitcher from Pasadena, California. He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 14th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft out of Maranatha High School, but declined to sign.
