BELOIT — Zach Zubia made sure that a fantastic crowd of 3,057 at ABC Supply Stadium went home happy Thursday night.

Zubia, leading off the ninth inning in a 1-1 game, crushed a 2-1 offering over the left field fence to give the Sky Carp their second straight victory over the Peoria Chiefs.

Beloit remains five games out of first place with 15 contests remaining in the season.

The pitching was once again the story of the evening. Evan Fitterer was terrific, going five innings and allowing just two hits and one run (on a Tommy Jew solo blast). The Sky Carp bullpen was up to the task as well, with Caleb Wurster and Jake Schrand each throwing a pair of scoreless frames.

The Sky Carp tied the game with a run in the sixth, thanks in large part to an error by Peoria. The game would stay deadlocked until Zubia’s third homer of the season in the ninth.

The Snappers and Chiefs will continue their six-game series Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with gates opening at 5:30. It’s Fairbanks Morse Defense Fireworks Friday, with a fantastic fireworks show following the game.
