Snappers Announce 2019 Field Staff

Beloit, WI - The Oakland Athletics, in conjunction with the Beloit Snappers, released the Snappers field staff for the upcoming 2019 season today. Beloit, WI - The Oakland Athletics, in conjunction with the Beloit Snappers, released the Snappers field staff for the upcoming 2019 season today. Becoming the 20th manager in Beloit Snappers history will be Lloyd Turner, who will be joined by Juan Dilone, Don Schulze, Anthony Phillips, Brian "Doc" Thorson, and Scott Smith completing the Snappers 2019 field staff.

Lloyd Turner returns to Beloit after spending the 2014-2015 seasons as the Snappers hitting coach, this time in the skipper role. Entering his first season as manager, Turner brings a vast amount of experience. In addition to coaching the Snappers, Turner served two stints totaling to four years as the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics Short Season Affiliate, the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Juan Dilone returns to Beloit as the hitting coach for the fourth consecutive year. Previously, Dilone served seven seasons as the hitting coach for the rookie-level Arizona A's, spent four seasons as the Coordinator of Dominican Instruction, and a season as hitting coach for Single-A Visalia and Short Season Vancouver.
Don Schulze will return to the Snappers in 2019 as pitching coach. Entering his 14th year of coaching in the A's farm system, Schulze brings Major League Baseball experience to the Snappers. Schulze was drafted in the first round of 1980 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs compiling a 15-25 record with a 5.47 ERA in the MLB. 2019 marks his third year as pitching coach for the Snappers while serving previously as pitching coach in Kane County, Stockton, Midland, and Nashville.
Anthony Phillips will join Manager Lloyd Turner as the two newcomers in 2019. Heading into his first year of coaching, Phillips spent time last year playing in the minor league farm of the Colorado Rockies and Independent leagues. Phillips played in the minor leagues for four different teams including the Mariners, Phillies, Angels, and Rockies as an infielder. A native of South Africa, Phillips represented South Africa in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
Brian "Doc" Thorson will return as the athletic trainer for 2019. Thorson is entering his 36th season as athletic trainer and 7th season with the Snappers. Thorson has worked previously with many A's affiliates, including Midland and Stockton and recently won the 2018 Midwest League Trainer of the Year award.
Scott Smith returns to the Snappers staff for his second season as the Strength and Conditioning coach. Smith is well traveled, coaching for minor league affiliates of the Phillies, Marlins, and Padres before being a part of the Oakland A's farm system last season.
The Beloit Snappers are excited for the upcoming 2019 season with a great group of coaches to lead the future A's stars of tomorrow right here in Beloit, WI. Opening Day is April 4th, 2019 as the Beloit Snappers host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:30 P.M.
