Arcia, Lopez named to Southern League Post-season All-Star Team

BILOXI, MS - Biloxi shortstop Orlando Arcia and right-handed starting pitcher Jorge Lopez have been selected to the Southern League Post-season All-Star team, as announced on Wednesday by the Southern League.

Arcia, 21, came into the season ranked as the No. 2 Milwaukee Brewers' prospect according to Baseball America, and made the leap to No. 1 upon the release of the midseason rankings (No. 8 overall). In 124 games, the shortstop leads the team in average at .308 and is second in the league in hits with 152. Arcia was also selected as a Mid-season All-Star and has compiled a league-leading 47 multi-hit performances, and has set career-highs in homeruns (8), RBI (66), doubles (26) and triples (7).

Arcia has reached base safely in 16-straight games and had his franchise-best 14-game hitting streak end on Monday. Over the last 16 games since August 16, Arcia is batting .391 with four doubles, two triples, three home runs, nine RBI and a .435 on-base percentage.

Among Southern League shortstops, Arcia leads the league fielding percentage (.982), committing just 10 errors over 118 games. He also leads the league in total chances (556), putouts (187) and assists (359). Arcia participated in the 2015 Futures Game, was a MiLB.com organizational All-Star in 2013 and 2014. The Anaco, VZ native was signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent in 2010.

Lopez, 22, named as the top right-handed starting pitcher in the Southern League has set a career-high and is tied for the league lead in wins with 12 in 23 starts - 15 quality. A second-round pick in the 2011 draft, the Puerto Rico native is second in the league in ERA with a 2.29 clip, behind only teammate Tyler Wagner, and leads the league in WHIP at 1.10, while striking out 134 (third in the league) and holding opponents to a .205 average (first in the league). The Shuckers only lost one game during a 12-start stretch with Lopez on the mound from April 24 to July 2, and have won a total of 17 games when the right-hander hurler starts.

Lopez was named Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for both June and July. Since his start on June 2, Lopez is 9-3 with a 1.53 ERA (16 ER/94.0 IP) in 14 starts, 28 walks, 91 strikeouts and a 0.97 WHIP. He has held the opposition to a .192 batting average. Lopez will make his next start on Friday night against the Tennessee Smokies at MGM Park.

The Shuckers are enjoying an off day today before welcoming the Tennessee Smokies for the final five games of the season at MGM Park. LHP Hobbs Johnson (7-7, 3.61) will look to finish the season above .500 for the Shuckers, while RHP Andres Santiago takes the mound for the Smokies. The final regular season homestand opens at MGM Park on Thursday and runs through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7. The series opens with Diamondhead, Bay St. Louis and Waveland Community Night and Superhero Night on Thursday, Sept. 3. There will be post-game fireworks following the final Saturday and Sunday games of the regular season, Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6. The 2015 regular season ends on Labor Day, Monday, September 7 with a 1:10 pm matinee.
