PENSACOLA, FL. - The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the following roster moves that affect the Shuckers' roster. The moves are made prior to tonight's 6:10 pm series finale at Pensacola.
Woodruff, 23, will make his 12th Biloxi start and 20th of the season tonight in the series finale at Pensacola. Woodruff's last start was against the Blue Wahoos on July 13, tossing 7.0 shutout innings on just 3 hits, matching a career high with 10 strikeouts and just 1 walk. The start earned the Wheeler, Miss. native Southern League Pitcher of the Week honors. In 11 Biloxi starts, Woodruff is 4-6 with a 4.04 ERA (55.2ip, 25er) with 59 strikeouts and 20 walks. Overall in 19 starts, he is 8-7 with a 3.06 ERA (100.0ip, 34er) and leads the Milwaukee Brewers farm system with 108 strikeouts.
Woodruff was the Brewers' 11th round selection in the 2014 draft out of Mississippi State.
Ortega, 23, made his last start on July 17 against the Birmingham Barons at MGM Park, suffering the loss after allowing 5 runs, 3 earned on 7 hits over 6.2 IP. Ortega on the year is 1-9 with a 4.99 ERA (97.1ip, 54er) with 54 strikeouts and 15 walks and a 1.30 WHIP. Ortega leads the Southern League in fewest walks per 9.0 IP at 1.29.
Ortega was signed by the Brewers in 2011 as a non-drafted free agent and resides in Miranda, Venezuela.
The Shuckers' current roster is made up of 25 active players and 7 on the disabled list.
First pitch tonight is scheduled for 6:10 pm, with coverage starting at 5:50 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app.
Biloxi returns to MGM Park July 28-30 for the final three games of a five-game series against the Mobile BayBears. Thursday, July 28, will be Christmas in July and Double Play Thursday at the Shuckers' home ballpark. Friday, July 29, the ZOOperstars! will make their way to MGM Park. Saturday, July 30 will be another Fireworks Extravaganza, as Biloxi's night sky will light up for the 10th time this season.
