Lee Dominates as Ponies Defeat Goats Again

Vasquez and Carpio Each Tally Two Hits

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 4-1 Saturday night in the second game of their four-game series at NYSEG Stadium.

RHP Zach Lee (5-1) earned the win as he threw seven scoreless innings in which he allowed just three hits and one walk. He also retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced to go along with six strikeouts.

 

The Rumble Ponies (31-42, 66-72) scored two in the bottom of the fourth. Jeremy Vasquez started the rally with a single off Matt Dennis. David Thompson followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out. Mike Paez hit into a fielder's choice, and Vasquez came around to score on the throw home. Austin Bossart drove in a second Binghamton run with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Ponies tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Edgardo Fermin belted an RBI triple into the left-center field gap off Justin Lawrence. It was Fermin's first RBI as a Rumble Pony. Patrick Mazeika and Quinn Brodey walked to load the bases. The next batter, Luis Carpio, drilled an RBI single to left and finished 2-4 with an RBI.

The lone run for the Yard Goats (35-35, 72-65) came in the eighth on a Vance Vizcaino solo homer off Joshua Torres. It was his ninth home run of the season. Torres would go on to close out the game in the ninth.

POSTGAME NOTES: Vasquez reached base three times and finished 2-3 with a run scored… Binghamton outhit Hartford 10-5… The Ponies have won consecutive home games for the first time since July 25-27, when they won three straight against Bowie.
