Reading Takes Suspended Contest, Second Game Rained Out

Bossart's Two Home Runs Lead Fightin Phils to Series Win

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 8-6 in the first game of Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium. Game two was postponed due to inclement weather. No makeup date has been announced at this time.

Fans holding tickets to Wednesday's game can redeem them for tickets of equal or lesser value to any future 2019 Rumble Ponies regular season home game. Tickets can be purchased online at BINGRP.COM, over the phone at (607) 722-FUNN, and in person at the Starting Gate Box Office at NYSEG Stadium.

Game One - Fightin Phils 8, Rumble Ponies 6

Picking up Tuesday night's suspended game in the bottom of the fourth with the Fightin Phils leading 4-0, the Rumble Ponies plated three runs in their first trip to bat on Wednesday. David Thompson, Jason Krizan and Gavin Cecchini each tallied RBI hits in the rally.

Reading (18-9, 57-37) countered with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth on an Austin Bossart three-run home run. It was his second homer of the game and third of the series.

Barrett Barnes hit a solo homer in the fifth. It was his team-leading 12th home run of the year. Binghamton (12-16, 47-45) pulled within one on a Krizan double that scored two in the seventh.

The Fightin Phils added an insurance run in the ninth on a Jose Gomez groundout.

Krizan finished 3-5 with three RBI to raise his total to 42 for the season. Barnes and Thompson each had a pair of hits and one RBI.

LHP David Peterson (3-3) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings. Lefty Aaron Brown (4-4) picked up the win after two innings of relief. Jeff Singer recorded his second save with 2.1 scoreless innings.

The Ponies begin a four-game series against the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park Thursday night with first pitch at 7:05 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:50 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: With his solo home run in the fifth, Barnes raises his RBI total to 48, moving him one behind Patrick Mazeika for the team lead… The Ponies left eight runners on base.
