Spiedies Fall to the Curve Dropping Fourth Straight

Vasquez Dominant for Altoona in Start
June 15, 2019

Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Spiedies (33-29) dropped their fourth straight game falling to the Altoona Curve 5-1 Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Curve were led by a solo homer from Hunter Owen in the fourth and a two-run homer from Bligh Madris in the sixth off of Binghamton starter Luc Rennie.

It's the fifth straight series the Ponies have dropped, as they fall to 1-4 on this current six-game homestand. Rennie (0-1) took the loss as he allowed three runs and four hits over five and two thirds innings, issuing four walks and striking out eight. Altoona starter Pedro Vasquez (6-1) was superb, allowing just one run on four hits over seven innings. Yeudy Garcia pitched two scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth.

The Spiedies got on the board first as Andres Gimenez led off the first inning with a triple off the right-field wall. Gimenez, activated off the Injured List Saturday and playing for the first time since June 2, was driven home by Braxton Lee on an RBI groundout. Binghamton would be held in check after that, finishing 0 for 1 with runners in scoring position and only leaving three on base.

Altoona added on two more runs in the seventh off Matt Blackham as first basemen Jerrick Suiter hit a two-run single to make it 5-1.

The Curve (34-31) have taken the first two games of the series as the Rumble Ponies try to avoid the sweep on Father's Day. First pitch is at 2:05PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show gets underway at 1:50.

POSTGAME NOTES: Spiedies catcher Ali Sanchez singled in the second to extend his hitting streak to eight games…Braxton Lee was the lone Binghamton player to have two hits.
