The Barons crushed the Lookouts 10-4 last night. It’s the first time all year that Birmingham scored double-digit runs in consecutive games.

Birmingham scored the first five runs of the game. Jose Rodriguez broke the seal in the third inning with an RBI single to bring in D.J. Burt. Rodriguez slapped another single to center field in the sixth inning, this time to score Burt and JJ Muno. The scoring continued with an RBI double off the bat of Moises Castillo to bring Rodriguez home. Castillo scored on a Yoelqui Cespedes base knock. At the end of the sixth, it was 5-0.

Despite Rodriguez’s strong start, the star of the show, especially in the first five innings, was Garrett Davila. That’s how long the lefty lasted. Davila did not allow a hit, struck out six, and walked just two Lookouts.

Chattanooga could not score on Will Carter, the newest Baron, in the sixth inning. However, they finally drew blood in the seventh on a Mike Siani solo homer, his eighth of the season. But they were not done there. Alex McGarry’s two-run long ball whittled the Birmingham lead to 5-3.

That’s as close as it got, though. The Barons smacked five runs in the eighth frame. Alex Destino got the party started with an RBI single. Destino crossed home, along with Moises Castillo, when Ivan Gonzalez connected for an RBI double. Muno cleared the bases with his second homer of the season.

McGarry went yard in the bottom of the ninth for his first multi-home run game of the season and the second of his career. But, the Lookouts comeback attempt fell short in a 10-4 decision.

Sean Burke (1-3, 5.19) is slated to start for the Barons tomorrow. Connor Curlis (2-5, 5.58) will go for the Lookouts. First pitch is 6:15 PM CT.
