Barons Rebound to Take Game Four

The Birmingham Barons pounded out 12 hits on the night to get a 7-3 win over Biloxi at Regions Field Friday night. The Barons hit three home runs in the win and continue to lead the South League in homers. Romy Gonzalez and Ti’Quan Forbes hit their second home runs

The Birmingham Barons pounded out 12 hits on the night to get a 7-3 win over Biloxi at Regions Field Friday night. The Barons hit three home runs in the win and continue to lead the South League in homers.

Romy Gonzalez and Ti’Quan Forbes hit their second home runs of the season while Zach Granite hit his first of the season.

The Barons (3-1) scored first in the game when Forbes hit a rocket over the center field fence that scored Carlos Perez and the Barons took a 2-0 lead in the game after two innings. In the top of the fourth, Biloxi (1-3) tied the game at 2-2 on a Payton Henry two-run home run.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Barons scored three runs to take back the lead. Ian Dawkins doubled on a sharp ground ball to left field scoring Laz Rivera. Zack Granite singled in Ian Dawkins and then Romy Gonzalez hit a solo home run to give the Barons a 5-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Granite homered to right field and Gonzalez doubled to right field to score Zach Remillard and the Barons extended their lead to 7-2. In the eighth inning, the Shuckers scored on a wild pitch scoring Brice Turang.

Starter Emilio Vargas (1-0, 3.60) was the winning pitcher for the Barons going five innings giving up only four hits and two earned runs striking out four and with two walks. J.B. Olson received his first hold of the season going two innings with no runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Ethan Small (0-1, 12.00) for Biloxi went three innings giving up four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Infielder Lucas Erceg pitched one inning giving up no runs on one hit with two walks and a strikeouts. Erceg consistently pitching in the 90’s and looks to contribute in the bullpen for the Shuckers on a regular basis along with playing in the infield.

With the win, the Barons continue to lead the North Division and have two more games with Biloxi.
