MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Generals scored nine unanswered runs, and the Biscuits (22-18) dropped the series opener against their North Division rivals 11-6 at Riverwalk Stadium.
Hunter Wood got the start on the mound for Montgomery and went five innings allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts in a no-decision.
In the bottom of the first, Braxton lee beat out an infield groundball hit to Generals shortstop Colin Walsh that extended his on-base streak to 26 games, tying Casey Gillaspie and Rico Washington for sixth all-time in Biscuits history while also extending his hit streak to seven games, and then Cade Gotta hit a two-run homer over the left-center field wall, his third on the year to put the Biscuits up 2-0.
Jamie Westbrook launched a solo shot off of biscuits starter Hunter Wood in the second to narrow the lead to just one, 2-1, and then in the third Montgomery would respond with two runs of their own. Braxton Lee led off the inning with a double to left followed by a Joe McCarthy walk, before Grant Kay reached base on a fielding error by 1st baseman Kevin Cron that brought in a run and Keon Wong hit an RBI single to put the Biscuits up 4-1.
Biscuits reliever Edwin Fierro (3-1) would come in to replace Wood in the sixth and that's when things would fall apart for the Biscuits, as he would go less than an inning surrendering five runs on four hits while striking out none in a loss.
Kelly Dugan led off the sixth with a single followed by a base hit from teammate Jamie Westbrook, and then Michael Perez, Travis Denker, and Victor Reyes swatted RBI singles to put Jackson up 7-4. Colin Walsh continued the inning with a walk before a throwing error by third baseman Grant Kay plated a pair of runs and a Kevin Cron Sac fly put the Generals up for good.
In the seventh Justin O' Conner blasted a two-run homer to left, his fourth of the season that brought the Biscuits within four, but then Trevor Sims (1-0) would settle down and get Andrew Velazquez to fly out to end the inning. Sims went four innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four in a win.
Dugan added an insurance run in the ninth to give the Generals their 11th victory against the Biscuits at Riverwalk who haven't secured a win at home versus Jackson since May 25th of 2016.
Montgomery heads into Friday night's matchup having won four of their last six games and will look to even the series when right-hander Greg Harris takes the Hill against the southpaw Alex Young (2-2) at 7:05 PM.
