August 15 -Polish Festival Night

Get off your dupa and get to the ballpark!
A great tradition every year at Coca-Cola Field, the Bisons will host their annual Polish Festival Night on Tuesday, August 15 as the team plays the Indianapolis Indians at 7:05 p.m.
Get to the ballpark for a special pregame Pavilion Party beginning at 5pm with live entertainment, food specials and special award ceremonies for this year's Bisons' Polish Night Honorees, Father Daniel Palys and Edward Reska. Then after the game, make sure you check out a spectacular Fireworks Show, presented by UNYTS.

Pre-Game Pavilion Party
TIME: From 5-7pm
ENTERTAINMENT: Live music from The Knewz. Specials dances by the Krakowiacy Dancers of Eugenia Dance Studio.
FOOD SPECIALS: Enjoy a Polish Sausage Plate (with sauerkraut, lazy pieogi, cabbage roll and rye bread) for only $8.00. Polish Sausage Sandwiches are only $5.00.
POLISH NIGHT HONOREE: Father Daniel J. Palys
Fr. Daniel J. Palys is a native of Buffalo and attended St. John Kanty Elementary School and the Diocesan Preparatory Seminary in Buffalo, and received a BA and BD from St. John Vianney Seminary in East Aurora. He pursued graduate studies in religious education at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Fr. Dan was ordained May, 24, 1969, by Bishop Bernard McLaughlin in St. Joseph's New Cathedral in Buffalo.
He served in the missionary apostolate at St. Joseph's, Bliss, as associate pastor at St. Mary's, Lockport, St. Andrews in Kenmore for 9 years, Christ the King, Snyder, and a pastor of Annunciation, Buffalo. He became pastor of St. Gabriel's, Elma in 1993 a parish of 2,600 families. St. Gabriel's had grown to over 5,000 families since Fr. Dan has become Pastor.
Fr. Dan retired from St. Gabriel Church in January of 2017.
Beyond parish responsibilities, Fr. Dan has been involved in various activities within the church and community. He was a member of the Diocesan Consultors and has served on the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, Priest Senate, the Council of Priests, Youth Boards, Drug Abuse Prevention Council, Priest Personnel Board, Diocesan Finance Council, served as chairman of the Diocesan Evangelization Committee, and has received numerous awards for his community service.
Fr. Dan has a special love for children and teens and brings a wealth of experience and willingness to share God's love and joy with others.
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD: Edward Reska
Edward Reska is a graduate of St. Francis High School, in Athol Springs, NY. Reska attended St. Mary's College/ SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan. After his time at St. Mary's, Reska made his way to Western New York to further his education. He graduated from Medaille College with B.A. in English and Social Studies. He then attended Canisius College where he earned masters' degrees in: Secondary Education, School Administration, and Religious Studies.
Reska taught in various parochial and public schools, finishing out his teaching career at Warsaw Central Schools, in Warsaw, New York. Although he is now retired, Reska still substitutes at Riverside High School, in Buffalo.
Outside of the classroom, Reska was involved with a multitude of organizations in the local community. He was the former Vice President/Secretary of the Polish Union of America. For over 25 years, he served as the Treasurer of the General Pulaski Association. Reska also served as the National Director of Religious Assistance to Poland, representing the Diocese of Buffalo. He is a member, and a former board member for the Polish American Congress. Reska is also a member of the Polish Arts Club.
For 29 years, Reska served on the Alumni Board at his alma-matter, Medaille College. For 12 of those 29 years, he was the President of the Alumni Board. In addition to serving on the Alumni Board, Reska was the Supervisor of Canadian Students at Medaille College. Reska is also a member of the President's Council of Villa Maria College.
Reska is a past President of the Diocesan Union of Holy Name Society in Buffalo, as well as a past president and member of the Bishops Pastoral Council. Reska is a member of the Southern Erie County Vicarate. He is also a board member and assistant treasurer of Substitutes United of Buffalo. Reska serves as the ticket chairman of "Farewell to Summer," a fundraiser for the Orchard Lake Schools.
Reska is an active member of the Queen of Angels Parish, where he is a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Vice President of the Parish Council, Secretary of Holy Name Society, and treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He is the Vice President of the Buffalo-Rzeszow Sister Cities. He also formerly served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the New York State Fraternal Congress.
Reska now enjoys traveling throughout the United States and Canada, especially to Michigan, where his sister, Marcia, and her family resides. He has also traveled abroad to Poland three times, the last being with his nephew. He plans on traveling to Italy for the second time in November. He has also been to Germany to see the Passion Play.
