Bisons active Rowland-Smith, Gose

Club loses closer Neil Wagner to disabled list

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that LHP RYAN ROWLAND-SMITH has been promoted to the club from Double-A New Hampshire. The club also activated OF ANTHONY GOSE, who was optioned to the Bisons on Sunday.

Buffalo also placed RHP NEIL WAGNER on the team's disabled list, retroactive to May 3., qwith a right forearm strain.

ROWLAND-SMITH, 31, was signed by the Blue Jays on April 29 and has spent the last week in extended spring training. He pitched in six games for the Arizona Diamondbacks to start this season after making the club out of spring training. The southpaw posted a 4.91 ERA and nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work (7 H, 4 BB). Rowland-Smith was designated for assignment by Arizona on April 18 and elected to become a free agent.

Rowland-Smith is a veteran of 121 major league games with a career 4.57 ERA in 370.0 innings of work. Originally signed by Seattle in 2000, he appeared in 115 games with the Mariners in parts of four seasons, 2007-2010, making a career-high 20 starts in 2010. Last season, Rowland-Smith was one of the top relievers in the International League, posting a 7-0 record and a 1.55 ERA in 37 appearances for Pawtucket (52.1 IP, 37 H, 45 SO).

Gose returns after his second stint with the Blue Jays. In 19 total games with the Bisons, the outfielder has hit .235 (16-68) with three doubles, a triple, seven RBI and 10 runs scored. He is also 4-for-7 stealing bases for Buffalo. Gose has played three games with the Blue Jays in 2014 with a .333 average (2-6), a double and two RBI.

Wagner has pitched shutout baseball in each of his first four outings with the Bisons this year. The closer has three saves and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.
