Bisons, Brown gets record-breaking win
No one has won more games in the Bisons modern era than manager Marty Brown.
The fan-favorite collected his record-breaking victory on Sunday afternoon as the Herd took down the Rochester Red Wings, 5-3, from Frontier Field. The win gave Brown 254 on the bench for the Bisons, one better than Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer, Brian Graham.
The victory was also the Bisons 16th on the season, setting a new team high for wins in April.
Brown entered the season with 238 victories from his first tenure with the club. He led Buffalo to three straight winning records, 2003-2005, including two International League North division titles and a 2004 Governors' Cup Championship.
This year, Brown has the Bisons off to the best start in the International League at 16-6. The club has the best offense in affiliated baseball and is an outstanding 10-2 on the road this season.
On Sunday, the Bisons rebounded from a 1-0 loss with an 11-hit attack to beat their closest rivals. Moises Sierra had RBI hits in the first and third innings as part of his three-hit day. Buffalo scored three more in the fifth for a 5-1 edge as Ryan Langerhans homered before RBI from Anthony Gose and Luis Jimenez.
Edgar Gonzalez picked up win #1 in his Bisons career by allowing three runs in 5.1 innings of work. It was the 10th consecutive game Buffalo has allowed three earned runs or less.
Four Bisons relievers locked down the win with Neil Wagner earning the four-out save. Wagner struck out three of the five batters he faced for his team-leading fifth save of the season.
BISONS NOTES: Bobby Korecky left Sunday's game after being hit in his left/non-throwing elbow by a comebacker off the bat of Evan Bigley…Luis Jimenez lost his 10-game hit streak by going 0-4. However, the slugger did pick up his IL-leading 24th RBI of the season…The Bisons have not lost consecutive games since losing three straight after their 3-0 start to the year.
