Bisons Gomez to compete in HR Derby

All-Star leads league with 24 home runs
July 9, 2013

Buffalo Bisons All-Star DH MAURO GOMEZ will be one of three International League sluggers that will take part in the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday, July 15 from Aces Ballpark in Reno, NV.

The Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby will be broadcast live on MiLB.tv (10:05 p.m.).

Gomez will be joined by 1B Chris Colabello from the Rochester Red Wings and INF Ernesto Mejia of the Gwinnett Braves on the International League side.

The Bisons have had two All-Stars win the Triple-A Home Run Derby in the last eight years. 3B ANDY MARTE hit 29 home runs to win the 2006 Home Run Derby played at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, OH. DH VALENTINO PASCUCCI thrilled the Coca-Cola Field crowd with his 22-home run performance in winning last year's derby in downtown Buffalo.

Gomez has been one of the top sluggers in all of minor league baseball and is 3rd-most home runs in the minors with 24 (three more than any hitter in the International League). He has already posted five multi-homer games this year and tied the Bisons modern era record with 13 home runs in the month of June alone. Gomez also leads the Bisons with 156 total bases (7th in IL) and is second on the club with a .540 slugging percentage (5th in IL).
