Outfielder optioned to the Bisons
April 22, 2014

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they have claimed OF DARIN MASTROIANNI off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and optioned him to the Bisons.

MASTROIANNI, 28, began the season with the Rochester Red Wings but was promoted to Minnesota after hitting .450 (9-20) with two doubles and two RBI in only four games. The outfielder went hitless in 11 at-bats over seven games with the Twins but did score three times.

Mastroianni was a member of the Twins 2013 Opening Day roster but missed three and a half months of the season because of a stress fracture in his left ankle that required surgery in May. In 30 total games with the Twins, he hit .185 (12-65) with two doubles and five RBI. He also played 15 games with Rochester in August and hit .240 (12-50) with a double and five RBI.

Mastroianni was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2007 draft. He spent the first five years of his career in Toronto's minor league system and played one game with the Blue Jays in August of 2011. He played 115 games with Minnesota from 2012-2014 with a .220 average, five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 22 RBI.
