Blue Jays option Anthony Gose to Herd

Toronto assigns Getz, Tolleson, Nickeas to minor league camp

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that OF ANTHONY GOSE has been optioned to the Buffalo Bisons. Toronto also announced that INF CHRIS GETZ, INF STEVE TOLLESON and C MIKE NICKEAS have been assigned to minor league camp.

Gose, 23, split last season between the Bisons and the Blue Jays. In 106 games with the Herd, the outfielder hit .239 (94-393) with 17 doubles, a team-high six triples, three home runs, 27 RBI and 22 stolen bases. He also led the Bisons with 64 runs scored and was 2nd among all International League outfielders with 15 assists. Gose made two stints with the Blue Jays during 2013, hitting a combined .259 (38-147) with six doubles, a team-high five triples, two home runs 12 RBI and four stolen bases.

GETZ, 30, spent most of last season with the Kansas City Royals and hit .220 (46-209) with six doubles, a home run, 18 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 78 games. He also played 19 games with KC's Triple-A affiliate in Omaha from late June to early August and hit .310 (26-84) with a home run and 10 RBI. Getz is a veteran of 449 major league games with the White Sox (2008-2009) and the Royals (2010-2013) with a .251 batting average, 63 extra base hits and 87 stolen bases.

TOLLESON, 30, spent all of 2103 with the Charlotte Knights and hit .288 (113-392) with 28 doubles, eight home runs, 53 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 116 games. The infielder has also spent time with the Norfolk Tides and Rochester Red Wings in his Triple-A career and is a lifetime .283 hitter in the minor leagues. Tolleson made his Major League debut with Oakland in 2010 and also saw time with the Baltimore Orioles in 2012. In 54 big league games, he has averaged .225 (27-120) with three home runs and 10 RBI.

NICKEAS, 31, played 58 games with the Bisons in 2013 and hit .166 (29-175) with 12 doubles, a home run and 11 RBI. He led the club with 54 starts behind the plate in 2013 and threw out 23% of would-be base stealers (57 SB, 74 ATT). After the season, Nickeas was voted by his Bisons teammates as the 2013 Joe DeSa Most Inspirational Player.
