Blue Jays promote Romero, 4 others
The Toronto Blue Jays announced the promotion of five Buffalo Bisons players following the Herd's season finale in Syracuse today. MLB expanded roster limits on Sunday, allowing clubs to promote additional players.
The following players were all recalled to the Toronto Blue Jays.
RHP KYLE DRABEK pitched in four games with the Bisons in 2013. The righty was 1-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 14.1 innings of work (14 H, 12 SO). His lone victory came in his only relief appearance when he tossed three shutout innings to defeat Rochester on August 14. Drabek did not pitch at any level in 2013 until June after having 'Tommy John' surgery in June of 2012.
RHP JEREMY JEFFRESS allowed an earned run in only three of his 25 appearances with the Bisons in 2013. The righty was 1-0 with a 1.65 ERA and eight saves (2nd most on the club). Jeffress struck out 28 batters and allowed just 22 hits in 27.1 innings of work and held opponents to a .192 (5-26) batting average with runners in scoring position.
C MIKE NICKEAS spent the entire season with the Bisons and hit .166 (29-175) with 12 doubles, a home run and 11 RBI in 58 games. His lone home run was a walk-off shot in the bottom of the 9th inning of a 5-3 win over Pawtucket on August 3. He was voted by his Bisons teammates as Buffalo's annual Joe DeSa "Most Inspirational Player." Buffalo pitchers were 25-29 with a 4.58 ERA witch Nickeas behind the plate.
LHP LUIS PEREZ pitched in two games with the Bisons on a MLB injury rehab assignment. He posted a 2.45 ERA with a run allowed in 3.2 innings of work.
LHP RICKY ROMERO joined the Bisons on May 10 and remained with the Herd throughout the 2013 season. The southpaw finished second on the club in starts (22) and innings pitched (113.2) and third in strikeouts (81). Overall, Romero was 5-8 with a 5.78 ERA and 136 hits allowed in his 113.2 innings of work. Buffalo was 10-12 in games started by Romero.
