Jays get Getz with minor league deal
The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they signed INF CHRIS GETZ to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.
GETZ, 30, spent most of last season with the Kansas City Royals and hit .220 (46-209) with six doubles, a home run, 18 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 78 games. He also played 19 games with KC's Triple-A affiliate in Omaha from late June to early August and hit .310 (26-84) with a home run and 10 RBI.
Getz is a veteran of 449 major league games with the White Sox (2008-2009) and the Royals (2010-2013) with a .251 batting average, 63 extra base hits and 87 stolen bases. He was a 2008 mid-season and post-season International League All-Star with Charlotte, hitting .302 (122-404) with 24 doubles, 11 home runs, 52 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 111 games with the Knights.
