Nanita, Weber join Bisons

Beck falls on DL, Batista released

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that OF RICARDO NANITA has been promoted to the Herd from Double-A New Hampshire. The club has also activated RHP THAD WEBER, who was claimed off waivers (San Diego) on Sunday.

The Bisons also announced that RHP CHAD BECK has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 20. And RHP MIGUEL BATISTA has been released by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Nanita, 31, has spent the entire 2013 season at Double-A New Hampshire where he has hit .255 (35-137) with four home runs and 11 RBI in 36 games. He hit in his last five games with the Fisher Cats, averaging .304 (7-23) with a home run and three RBI since May 15.

Nanita spent all of 2012 with Marty Brown's Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League and hit .306 (102-333) with 17 doubles, 12 home runs and 62 RBI in 93 games. This past off-season, Nanita was a member of the World Baseball Classic Champion Dominican Republic squad.

Weber, 28, began the 2013 season with the Triple-A Tucson Padres of the Pacific Coast League. In six starts, the righty is 4-1 with a 3.93 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 34.1 innings of work. Weber was also promoted to San Diego for three games in April and allowed two runs in 9.0 innings over three relief appearances. He tossed 4.1 innings of shutout baseball on April 23 against Milwaukee.

Beck is 1-0 with a 9.45 ERA in five relief appearances with the Bisons (6.2 IP, 3 SO).

Batista was 1-2 with an 8.36 ERA in eight games and seven starts with the Herd (28.0 IP, 41 H, 17 SO).
