Offense keeps Buffalo in the win column

The Herd continued its loud bats from Monday night's 10th inning.

Using its lately stellar offense, the Bisons took down Lehigh Valley 7-6 on Tuesday. It's the second straight win for the Herd at Coca-Cola Park.

In a contest where the Bisons totaled 14 hits, Ryan Schimpf really stood out. The Covington, LA native has been the IronPigs' nightmare the past two games.

The Bisons got its bats going early with four hits in the second to build a 3-0 lead. The Herd put runners at first and second after two consecutive singles form Brad Glenn and Andy LaRoche. Schimpf kept his to his scoring ways when he doubled to right to score Glenn from second and advance LaRoche to third. Cory Aldridge then followed up Schimpf's hit with a single to right that score both runners to cap off the inning for Buffalo.

Schimpf was back at it in the fourth. Glenn once again singled his way on to start the inning. After LaRoche followed up with a flyout to center, Schimpf launched his fifth homer with the Herd. Schimpf crushed a first-pitch-strike over the heart of the plate and sent it to the bleachers in right to put Buffalo up 5-1.

A Bisons two-run fifth led to Lehigh Valley manager Dave Brundage's ejection. After Kevin Pillar doubled in Jonathan Diaz from second with no one out, Jared Goedert reached on an error from pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes. It looked as if Reyes tagged Goedert on his way to first, but the home plate umpire called Goedert safe. Brundage stormed out of the dugout in a tirade until he was ejected shortly after. The error led to Glenn's third hit of the night that scored Pillar from third to grow Buffalo's lead to six.

The IronPigs made it interesting in the bottom half of the fifth. After Lehigh Valley loaded the bags with three singles, Russ Canzler lined a bases clearing double to cut the lead to two and send Herd starter Radhames Liz to the dugout. Tyler Henson then made it a 7-6 game when he doubled to right off Ryan Tepera to round Canzler from second.

On the mound, Liz made his third start for the Herd on Tuesday night. He surrendered Lehigh Valley's first run after committing a wild pitch to set the eventual run up in scoring position. Liz did hold Lehigh Valley to just one run off three hits until the fifth inning where they got to Liz with five runs off six hits. The righty finished the day giving up six runs off eight hits while striking out four before departing for Tepera.

Tepera had a solid outing on Tuesday night. He fanned five IronPigs in his 1.2 innings of work, including striking out the side in the sixth.

The Herd will start a 10-game home stand Wednesday with first pitch at 7:05 pm.

Bisons Notes:
The Toronto Blue Jays announced they have selected the contract of Aaron Sanchez, Ryan Goins and Esmil Rogers. To make room, Toronto optioned catcher Erik Kratz and outfielder Darin Mastroianni. Five Bisons batters had multi-hit performances on Tuesday, including Brad Glenn. Glenn was 4-5 with two runs score and a RBI. Ryan Schimpf stayed hot by going 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
