Wilmington, DE - Wilmington Blue Rocks outfielder Anderson Miller has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for May 8-14, 2017, the Carolina League office announced on Monday. The award is the first for Miller in his career. It is the second weekly honor for the Blue Rocks this season, coming in back-to-back weeks, after outfielder Elier Hernandez earned the award for May 1-7, 2017 prior to his promotion to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Miller crushed the ball during the span and hit .417 (10-for-24) with a pair of homers and drove in six runs while yielding a .500 on-base percentage. With his torrid pace at the plate, it has helped him extend his career-high and Carolina League high 29-game on base streak which he started back on April 14. During the impressive streak, Miller has hit .307, clubbed six home runs and has 20 runs batted in to go along with 13 walks. The streak is the fifth-longest in the Carolina League in the last three years. Miller is four-games shy of tying Eric Hosmer's club record of 33 straight games on-base when the former Blue Rock accomplished the feat back in 2010.
The Lexington, Kentucky native is in his second season with Wilmington and is in the top-five in numerous offensive categories including first in home runs (6), stolen bases (11), and runs (T-1st, 21). He ranks second in RBI (24) and third in walks (18). During the seven-day span, Miller recorded a hit in all but one game and has recorded multiple hits in three of this last four contests.
Last season, Miller hit just .201 with three homers and 16 RBI in 38 games with the Blue Crew a season ago after starting the campaign in Low-A Lexington. The Kansas City Royals drafted Miller from Western Kentucky University in the third round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks begin an eight-game road trip starting with the Potomac Nationals on Monday, May 15 at 7:05 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium. RHP Scott Blewett (1-3, 4.05 ERA) makes the start for the Rocks while the P-Nats counter with RHP Joan Baez (1-4, 5.74 ERA). Fans can listen to the game as Matt Janus will have the call on 89.7 WGLS-FM. Wilmington returns to Frawley Stadium on Tuesday, May 23 when they welcome in the Lynchburg Hillcats to start the homestand. Fans can purchase tickets at www.bluerocks.com
