The BlueClaws topped Greensboro 9-0 on Friday at FirstEnergy Park.
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Daniel Brito homered and drove in three and Cord Sandberg added three hits and three RBIs as Lakewood blanked Greensboro 9-0 on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park.
The win snaps a BlueClaws four-game losing streak and puts them back over .500 at 5-4. Greensboro, who shut out Lakewood on Thursday, falls to 6-3 on the young season.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the third inning on a two-run double by Cord Sandberg. The two-base hit snapped a 17-inning BlueClaws scoreless streak.
Lakewood added two more in the fourth on a two-run Daniel Brito home run. Brito, a 19 year old from Venezuela, hit two home runs last year in the Gulf Coast League, but now has three with the BlueClaws. Brito has now hit safely in eight of the nine games of the season.
After Greensboro starter Dylan Lee (0-1) came out after four, the BlueClaws blew the game open with a four-run sixth off Ben Meyer. After an error on shortstop Garvis Lara, Daniel Brito's RBI single made it 5-0 BlueClaws, and Lakewood added runs on RBI singles by Carlos Duran and Cord Sandberg with another run scoring on a wild pitch.
BlueClaws starter Ranger Suarez threw four scoreless innings but came out after the fourth, getting a no-decision. Ismael Cabrera followed with three scoreless innings for a second straight appearance to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The BlueClaws and Grasshoppers play a split Saturday double-header with games at 1:05 pm and 7:05 pm. In game one, BlueClaws RHP Adonis Medina (0-0) opposes RHP Michael King. In game two, BlueClaws LHP Nick Fanti (0-0) faces off with RHP Jordan Holloway (0-0).
