The Pork Rolls won their first game, topping Kannapolis 1-0 behind Nick Fanti on Friday at FirstEnergy Park!
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Nick Fanti gave up one hit over six scoreless innings to win his final start of the year as the BlueClaws, playing for one night as the Jersey Shore Pork Rolls, topped Kannapolis 1-0.
Fanti gave up a bunt single to Alex Call leading off the fifth inning, the only hit he allowed as he improved to 9-2 on the year. Three of his wins were in 1-0 games. The BlueClaws broke their own team record by throwing their 21st shutout, with 11 of the 21 coming in 1 or 2-0 games. It was their fifth 1-0 win of the season.
Fanti finishes his season at 9-2 and gave up one or no earned runs in 13 of his 21 starts.
Will Hibbs, who got the last out of the eighth inning striking out Blake Rutherford with two on, threw a scoreless ninth inning for his 20th save. Hibbs joins Jared Simon, who saved 30 in 2008, as the only BlueClaws to save at least 20 games in a season.
The BlueClaws got the game's lone run in the second inning on an RBI single by Gregori Rivero. He drove home Austin Listi who led off the inning with a triple.
That would be the only run the BlueClaws could muster off Luis Martinez (8-2), who gave up the one run on five hits in six innings of work.
Arquimedes Gamboa had a single in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, over which he is 29-46. Gregori Rivero had two of the five BlueClaws hits and Alex Call had both Kannapolis hits.
The BlueClaws and Kannapolis continue their series on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Felix Paulino (4-9) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Yelmison Peralta (3-3).
