December 17, 2012
LAKEWOOD, NJ - A former and future BlueClaw led Baseball America's annual Phillies top ten prospect rankings, with 2011 BlueClaws LHP Jesse Biddle topping the list for the first time after ranking second entering the 2012 season.

Roman Quinn, a former 2nd round pick who spent last year with Williamsport, ranked 2nd on the list. Four of the top ten players on the list have played for the BlueClaws within the last three seasons.

"It's always great to see former BlueClaws recognized on lists like this one," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We're excited to see so many former BlueClaws doing great things and to see some of the players that will come through Lakewood on their way through the system."

Among former BlueClaws, Biddle, a first round pick in 2010 from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, went 7-8 with a 2.98 ERA with the BlueClaws in 2011, earning post-season SAL All-Star honors. This year, he was 10-6 with a 3.22 ERA with Clearwater, leading the Florida State League with 151 strikeouts.

2010 BlueClaw Jonathan Pettibone, a 3rd round pick in 2008, ranked fourth on the list. With Lakewood that year, Pettibone helped the BlueClaws win their second straight SAL title by going 8-6 with a 3.49 ERA. This year, he went 9-7, 3.30 with Reading and after a promotion to Lehigh Valley, went 4-1, 2.55 in seven starts.

Maikel Franco, who spent 2012 with the BlueClaws, ranked 8th on the list. Franco led the BlueClaws with 14 home runs and 84 RBIs this year and hit .280 (including .346 in the second half).

Finally, Darin Ruf, a 2010 BlueClaw, ranked 9th on the list. Ruf hit .330 in 115 at bats with Lakewood that year before a promotion to Clearwater. This year, he hit a Minor League leading 38 home runs with Reading before a promotion to the Phillies, where he hit three home runs. He became the 48th player to go "From The Shore to the Show."

Among the future BlueClaws, shortstop Roman Quinn ranked second on the list. Quinn was a 2nd round pick in 2010 who in 2012, hit .281 with a NY-Penn League leading 30 stolen bases for Williamsport.

Carlos Tocci, a 17 year old outfielder, ranked 9th on the list. Tocci hit .278 with the GCL Phillies last year. Should he play for the BlueClaws in 2013, he would be the second youngest player in BlueClaws history.

Elsewhere on the list: catcher Tommy Joseph (acquired from San Francisco in the Hunter Pence trade) ranked 3rd, pitcher Adam Morgan (3rd round pick in 2011) ranked 5th, pitcher Ethan Martin (acquired from the Dodgers in the Shane Victorino trade) ranked 6th, and third baseman Cody Asche (4th round pick in 2011) ranked 7th.
