Giant, Jet Legends Johnson, Harper Added to Hitting Challenge

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws are excited to announce that New York Giants legend Pepper Johnson and New York Jets legend Bruce Harper have been added to the June 17th Celebrity Hitting Challenge as part of ClawStar Spectacular festivities.

Pepper Johnson was drafted by the Giants in the 2nd round of the 1986 draft out of Ohio State. He played with the Giants from 1986-1992 and was a part of two Super Bowl winning teams. He was in the NFL as a player through 1998 including his final two seasons with the Jets. Johnson has been a coach with the Patriots since 2000, is currently their linebackers coach, and has won three more Super Bowl titles as a coach.

Harper, an Englewood, New Jersey native, played at Kutztown University and was signed by the Jets in 1977. A fan favorite, Harper played for the Jets from 1977-1984 and is the all-time kick return leader in franchise history.

He currently is the director of the non-profit organization Heroes and Cool Kids, an organization through which high school students mentor elementary school and middle-school students from their districts.

Johnson and Harper will be on competing teams in the June 17th Celebrity Hitting Challenge, part of ClawStar Spectacular events at FirstEnergy Park. The ClawStar Spectacular includes the June 18th South Atlantic League All-Star Game, and is presented by Kimball and Community Medical Centers of Barnabas Health, OceanFirst Bank, and Shore Point Distributing.

The event will include various beach-themed targets all over the field, with competitors earning points for hitting each target. There will be two teams of celebrities, with Johnson and Harper on opposing teams.

Other celebrities already announced include baseball players Mitch Williams and Doc Gooden, comedians Jim Florentine and Artie Lange, former pro wrestler Tito Santana and more. Additional celebrities will still be added.

The Celebrity Hitting Challenge has special VIP availability. Located on the field, those in the VIP area will get to watch the event from a unique perspective and enjoy a buffet and open-bar. For more information on VIP seating, call 732-901-7000 option 2 or click here.
