Late Grand Slam Breaks Open Delmarva 8-1 Win

Crawford extends hitting streak to 11 in loss

SALISBURY, MD - Jeff Kemp's seventh inning grand slam broke open a 2-1 game and Delmarva topped the BlueClaws 8-1 on Saturday night at Pedue Stadium.

The loss is Lakewood's fourth in a row and drops them to 12-21 on the year, while Delmarva is now at 17-17 and winners of four straight.

Delmarva got a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Drew Dosch off Lakewood starter Alejandro Arteaga, bringing home Mike Yastrzemski, who tripled.

After the BlueClaws tied the game in the second inning on Mitch Walding's RBI single, the Shorebirds took the lead back in the bottom of the second inning when a Justin Viele infield single brought home Josh Hart.

In the seventh inning, Kemp hit a grand slam, his first home run of the year, off Lakewood's Ulises Joaquin to push the game to 6-1.

BlueClaws starter Alejandro Arteaga (3-4) took the loss after allowing two runs in five innings. Joaquin gave up four runs (three earned) in two innings and Jesen Therrien allowed two unearned runs in the 8th inning. Lakewood made four errors in the game and they have made 13 in their last four games, all losses.

Shorebirds starter Luc Rennie (1-3) got his first win of the year, allowing one run over six innings. Dennis Torres got the last nine outs for his first save.

JP Crawford had three hits for the BlueClaws, extending his hitting streak to 11 games, over which he is now 19-43. Deivi Grullon threw out two Shorebirds base-stealers and has thrown out 7 of 21 to try to steal against him so far.

The four-game series continues on Snday afternoon at 2:05. RHP Mark Leiter Jr. (3-3, 3.89) throws for the BlueClaws against Delmarva RHP Austin Urban (1-3, 5.66).
