HAGERSTOWN, MD - Hagerstown scored three times in the second inning and Tommy Peterson got the last nine outs for a save as the BlueClaws fell 3-2 in Hagerstown on Monday afternoon.
The Suns win gives them three in the four game series over the BlueClaws and Lakewood is now 3.5 games behind the Suns with six games left (Hagerstown has seven). The Suns are 10-4 against Lakewood this year including 8-3 at Municipal Stadium.
Peterson, who earned his third save, allowed just one base-runner over three innings. McKenzie Mills (6-2) earned the win, scattering two runs over six innings of work.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the second inning on a home run by Darick Hall. It was his ninth home run of the season and 18th of his career after he hit nine with Williamsport last year.
Hagerstown responded with three runs in the bottom of the second. Anderson Franco's two-run double made it 2-1 Suns and Angelo LaBruna followed with a suicide squeeze to put Hagerstown up 3-1.
That score held until the sixth inning, when Enmanuel Garcia tripled off McKenzie Mills. He was driven in by a groundout from Raul Rivas to cut the Suns lead to 3-2. However, the BlueClaws would not score again.
Ranger Suárez (4-2) took the loss, allowing three runs over seven innings. It was the fifth time in 11 starts that Suarez pitched seven innings this year.
Luke Williams (12) and Arquimedes Gamboa (7) each saw hitting streaks end for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws head home and open a series with Delmarva on Tuesday night. RHP Adonis Medina (1-5) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Lucas Humpal (3-4).
