RICHMOND, Va. - A Johneshwy Fargas walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning gave the Richmond Flying Squirrels a 3-2 win over the Bowie Baysox in front of 6,177 at The Diamond Wednesday.
Richmond (4-2) took a 1-0 lead after the first inning of the road trip finale, but Yusniel Díaz recorded a pair of doubles in his first two at-bats. The latter two-bagger in the third inning drove in T.J. Nichting to tie the score at one run apiece.
The Baysox (2-4) again rallied with two outs in the seventh inning. After Ryan McKenna beat out a two-out infield single, a throwing error by shortstop Ryan Howard-the third of the game for the Squirrels-off the bat of Nichting allowed Preston Palmeiro to score and re-tie the game at 2-2.
Making his 2019 debut, Baysox starter Bruce Zimmermann allowed one first-inning run on two hits, while striking out three batters in a no-decision. Cristian Alvarado allowed one earned run in two relief innings in his Double-A debut, but forced Jin-de Jhang to line out to shortstop Sean Miller with two runners in scoring position in the sixth inning. Tanner Chleborad tossed a scoreless eighth inning before the Squirrels clinched a series split in the ninth inning.
The Baysox return home Thursday for the 2019 home opener at 6:35 p.m. against the Harrisburg Senators, Double-A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals. RHP Marcos Molina makes his second start of the season against Harrisburg RHP Erick Fedde.
