RIZER HOME RUN LIFTS BAYSOX TO DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

Baysox Allow Just Two Runs in Double Dip in Erie

Scoreless in the seventh and final inning of game two Friday night, Baysox centerfielder Johnny Rizer lifted a solo home run to right-center field to break the draw and lift Bowie to a doubleheader sweep in a 1-0 win in Erie.

The Baysox had three pitchers combine to one-hit Erie in the nightcap. Kyle Brnovich, making his third Double-A start and fourth appearance with the Baysox, was dominant. Brnovich kept Erie off balance working five scoreless innings allowing just an infield single. Steve Klimek (2-3) came in against the big bats at the top of the order in the sixth and worked a 1-2-3 inning for the win. Felix Bautista, with a newfound lead in tow, set down the SeaWolves quickly to earn his first Double-A save.

In the opener, Mike Baumann fanned eight batters in six strong frames in a 6-2 Baysox win. It was a third consecutive strong start for Baumann (2-2) who worked six innings for a first time this season.

The Baysox opened the scoring in the third inning, when Doran Turchin homered off of the Erie Insurance Arena in left field. The two-run shot was his eighth of the season. The Baysox weren’t done yet as Adley Rutschman singled and later scored on a base hit from Robert Neustrom to finalize a three-run rally.

It wouldn’t be Bowie’s only three-run rally of the game.

Leading by just 3-2 in the fifth inning, the Baysox opened it up a bit. With one down, four straight Baysox reached base. Patrick Dorrian walked, Rutschman singled on a line drive to right, Kyle Stowers walked and Neustrom then singled to left to score Dorrian for his 50th RBI of the season.

Erie went to the pen and looked like they might limit the damage. But with two down, Rizer came through, singling to center to score two runs and double Bowie’s lead to 6-2. The Baysox went 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the win.

The Baysox, who won their first six series of the year but then dropped their next four will try to end that streak Saturday night in Erie. RHP Grayson Rodriguez will get the start as for the 7:05 p.m. first pitch as the Baysox try to get a fourth consecutive win.

Bowie will head home next Tuesday, July 20th to start a six-game series with Hartford. Fireworks will follow the Friday and Saturday evening games next week! Get your tickets now at Baysox.com!
