BOWIE, Md. -- The Bowie Baysox scored 10 runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 13-0 shutout of the Harrisburg Senators in front of 7,947 at Prince George's Stadium Thursday night.
The Baysox (12-4) got the fireworks show started early, blasting three home runs in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. The two-out rally started with Yusniel Díaz, who launched a two-run shot to the woods in left field for his ninth long ball of the season.
After a Carlos Pèrez infield single, Rylan Bannon lifted an opposite-field two-run shot to right-center to double the lead. Jesse Valentin went back-to-back by sending his seventh home run of the year to right-center--the fourth time this week that the Baysox have hit back-to-back home runs.
Bowie extended its lead to 7-0 with two runs and another two-out rally in the second inning. A single and two walks loaded the bases for Bannon, who grounded a ball through the legs of shortstop Luis Garcia. The fielding error allowed Ryan McKenna and Diaz to score a pair of unearned runs off Harrisburg starter Tyler Mapes.
The hosts reached double figures with three runs in the third inning to expand the margin to 10-0. A walk, a single and another walk loaded the bases for McKenna, who nearly hit his fourth home run of the week to left field.
A two-run double off the top of the wall scored Preston Palmeiro and Mason McCoy for the center fielder's 12th RBI of the week. Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to left field one batter later, scoring D.J. Stewart for his third RBI of the night.
For a finale, the hosts added three runs in the eighth inning to take 13-0 lead. McKenna launched his second double of the night to the left of dead center field for his third RBI of the game. Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to left field for his fourth RBI, while Bannon beat out a potential double play to drive in his third run of the evening.
Meanwhile, Bruce Zimmermann earned his fourth win of the season by tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out seven Senators. The lefty retired eight in a row through the middle innings, while allowing just two runners to reach third base.
The quality start marked the fourth in his last five starts, while also avenging a June 23 loss at FNB Field in Harrisburg. Pedro Araujo capped off the night and completed the shutout by tossing a pair of scoreless relief innings.
Bowie and Harrisburg (5-10) continue their four-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m., when LHP Zac Lowther (8-5, 2.46 ERA) and RHP Steven Fuentes (3-3, 1.80 ERA) take the mound in game two.
Friday night is Prince and Princess Night at the stadium, with kids having the chance to meet a group of magical royalty in the concourse. After the game, families who pre-registered can spend the night on the outfield grass during the 2019 Family Campout.
