BOWIE, Md. -- A six-run second inning propelled the Bowie Baysox to an 8-5 win over the Harrisburg Senators in front of 2,013 at Prince George's Stadium Friday night.

Harrisburg (5-11) scored their first run of the series on a Tres Barrera sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 first-inning lead, but Bowie answered with a six-run second inning to take a 6-1 early lead. From his No. 9 spot in the lineup, Preston Palmeiro lined an opposite-field double to the left-center gap to score Jesse Valentin. Mason McCoy lined a single off third baseman Ian Sagdal one pitch later to score Cole Billingsley for the go-ahead run.

Three batters later, Yusniel Diaz took the first pitch from Senators starter Steven Fuentes deep to the right-center gap for a two-run triple. D.J. Stewart, who plated a run on a fielder's choice, and Ryan McKenna scored the fourth and fifth runs of the frame, while Diaz came home on the ensuing pitch via a broken-bat single to left field from Carlos Perez.

The visitors answered with two runs in the third inning, but Bowie (12-4) plated another run in the bottom half of the frame. Billingsley hustled into second base with a one-out bloop double to set the table for Palmeiro, who took the first pitch from Fuentes into right field for his second RBI in as many innings and increased the lead to 7-3.

Bowie scored for a third straight inning with a single run in the fourth inning. Perez led off with a solo home run on a towering fly ball down the left field line. The sixth long ball of the season for the Baysox catcher gave him two RBI in as many at-bats, while a Valentin single two batters later gave every batter in the Bowie lineup at least one hit in the game.

On the mound, Zac Lowther extended his team lead with his ninth win of the season. In five innings, the lefty worked around four walks to strike out five Senators and allow three runs on five hits. After Zach Muckenhirn tossed one inning, Cristian Alvarado struck out four batters in three scoreless frames to earn his second save.

The Baysox send LHP Alex Wells (6-1, 2.05 ERA) to the mound Saturday night for a 6:35 p.m. showdown against the Senators and RHP Mario Sanchez (6-1, 3.34 ERA). The third game is Island Luau Night at the ballpark, with the first 500 fans (age 13 & over) receiving a Baysox Island Luau t-shirt. Performers from Halau 'O Aulani & Meka's Temure will also be on-hand to provide the entertainment through the night.
