Winston-Salem, North Carolina– Mason Auer homered and Tyler Frank had three RBIs in his Bowling Green Hot Rods (23-13, 64-37) debut in a 9-6 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash (16-21, 49-54) on Tuesday night. The Hot Rods and Dash continue their six-game series on Wednesday with a 6:00 PM CT first pitch at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Dash took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the newest Hot Rods hitter tied the game in the top of the fifth against Winston-Salem starter Chase Solesky. With two outs, Johan Lopez reached on an infield single, and Frank doubled off the wall to deep right-center field. Lopez scored to make it a 1-1 game.

Winston-Salem piled on to chase BG starter Ben Brecht from the game in the fifth. Four runs scored on two hits, two walks, and an error (all with two outs) to give the Dash a 5-1 lead. Adam Hackenberg homered for the Dash in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead to 6-1 and seemingly putting the game out of reach.

The Hot Rods roared back in the top of the eighth, chewing through Dash relievers. An inning that contained four walks, a hit batsman, four hits, and a sacrifice fly yielded seven runs, giving BG an 8-6 edge. Auer added a homer in the ninth to help the Hot Rods lock in a 9-6, series-opening win.

Brecht allowed five runs (one earned) on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts in a no-decision. Evan Reifert (4-0) held the Dash to one run on two hits over 2.1 innings with a walk in a win. Kyle Whitten threw 2.0 scoreless innings, holding Winston-Salem to one hit with two strikeouts in a save.
