BOWLING GREEN, KY - With the rain falling, the Bowling Green Hot Rods came back to beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps 2-1 in what was yet another fantastic performance from LHP Josh Fleming .
It took until the fourth inning for either team to get anything going on offense, as through the first three 1B Devin Davis had the only base hit of the game, a double, and there was no score. Fleming retired the first 11 batters he faced before RF Tirso Ornelas hit a solo home run to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead.
The Hot Rods waited until the sixth inning to respond when RF Eleardo Cabrera hit a leadoff single and stole second thanks to some fancy footwork to dodge a tag and pick up the extra 90 feet. SS Taylor Walls brought him home with another single and the game was tied at 1.
It was the very next inning when the Hot Rods took their first lead of the game thanks to a solo home run to right field from Davis to make the score 2-1.
Fleming wound up pitching seven innings, and he only allowed two hits, one run, he didn't walk any and struck out two. LHP Nick Margevicius also had a solid start as he threw seven innings, allowed five hits, two runs, and picked up three strikeouts.
RHP Jhonleider Salinas pitched the final two innings of the game and only allowed one walk to pick up his second save of the season. He struck out the last two batters he faced including Ornelas for the final out of the game.
The Hot Rods and TinCaps will play a modified double header tomorrow. At 5:00pm they will pick up a game that was started in Fort Wayne and is currently 1-1. Fort Wayne will be the home team. Then a regular game will follow. Both games will be scheduled for seven innings at Bowling Green Ballpark.
