Hot Rods Shut Out Grasshoppers for Third-Straight Win

Bowling Green, Kentucky– Patrick Wicklander pitched a perfect 5.1 innings of relief as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (22-12, 63-36) tossed a two-hit shutout against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (16-18, 43-56) in a 6-0 win at Bowling Green Ballpark on Saturday. Bowling Green, Kentucky– Patrick Wicklander pitched a perfect 5.1 innings of relief as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (22-12, 63-36) tossed a two-hit shutout against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (16-18, 43-56) in a 6-0 win at Bowling Green Ballpark on Saturday. The Hot Rods and Grasshoppers will finish their six-game series on Sunday with a 1:05 PM CT first pitch.

Alika Williams started things off with a bang, leading off the game with a solo home run. Mason Auer and Kyle Manzardo traded doubles, with Auer scoring the second run of the game to give BG a 2-0 lead after the first. Bowling Green began a two-out rally after Auer was hit by a pitch in the fifth. Manzardo drove him in with an RBI single and was driven in by Matthew Dyer, who hit a two-run home run to increase the Hot Rods’ lead to 5-0. Bowling Green loaded the bases in the eighth and got one more run on an RBI groundout from Johan Lopez. The Hot Rods completed their shutout in the ninth and secured a 6-0 victory over Greensboro.

Austin Vernon went 1.2 innings with two walks and two strikeouts in a no-decision. Wicklander (3-4) tossed 5.1 shutout innings with one strikeout and didn’t allow a baserunner in the victory. Kyle Whitten threw the final 2.0 innings for the Hot Rods, allowing two hits and striking out one.
