DAYTON, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods are officially headed back to the playoffs after an 8-4 win over the Dayton Dragons this afternoon at Fifth Third Field. CF Carl Chester hit his third home run of the season, and RHP Tobias Myers earned his seventh win of the year.
The Hot Rods got on the board right away in the first inning. SS Taylor Walls led off with a single, and scored two batters later on a LF Moises Gomez sac fly to left, and it was 1-0 Bowling Green.
The lead doubled in the second. DH Chris Betts led off with a single, and two batters later scored on RF Emilio Gustave's double to center field. It was 2-0 Bowling Green.
Dayton tied the game in the bottom of the third, when four singles turned into two runs, and it was 2-2 after three innings.
2B Zach Rutherford untied the game with a two run blast to left in the top of the fifth. It was his fourth home run of the year, and it gave his team a 4-2 lead.
The Dragons made it a one run game in the bottom of the eighth. An RBI single from LF Andy Sugilio made it a 4-3 game.
LHP Hunter Schryver locked down the win in the ninth, earning his seventh save of the season.
LHP Resly Linares got the start for Bowling Green, and threw four innings. He allowed four hits and two runs, walking one and striking out two. RHP Austin Franklin (4-2, 3.70) earned the win in his third career relief appearance. He threw four innings, allowing four hits and one run, walking one and striking out four.
The Hot Rods return home for the final home series of the first half tomorrow night when Fort Wayne comes to town. Neither team has announced a starter for the game, which starts at 6:35pm at Bowling Green Ballpark.
