Johnson K’s 11 in 10-4 Victory on Friday

Greensboro, North Carolina– Seth Johnson struck out 11 and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (23-13) scored double-digit runs for the second-consecutive game in a 10-4 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (15-21) on Friday night at First National Bank Field. The two teams will play the fifth game of the series on Saturday with a 5:30 PM CT first pitch in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Greensboro plated the first run of the game in the first inning against Johnson. Endy Rodriguez homered to right, but BG answered in the second.

Osleivis Basabe led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the season, to tie the game. Alexander Ovalles followed up with an infield single and Matthew Dyer did the same before Logan Driscoll doubled to left, plating Ovalles to give the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead. Ronny Simon lifted a sacrifice fly to the outfield, bringing home Dyer. Alika Williams capped off the four-run inning by grounding into a force out that plated Driscoll to give the Hot Rods a 4-1 edge.

Garrett Hiott homered in the fourth to extend the lead while a run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two more in the seventh pushed the Hot Rods to double-digit scoring for the second-straight night. Johnson, Graeme Stinson, and Nomar Rojas combined to hold the Grasshoppers to four runs in the 10-4 victory.

Johnson (1-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts over five innings. Stinson had five strikeouts in 2.1 innings, with two runs on three hits. Rojas threw 1.2 scoreless frames in relief with two walks.

Notes: Johnson set a career-high with 11 strikeouts… It’s also a season-high for a Hot Rods pitcher… Johnson and Stinson combined for 16 strikeouts, a season-high for the pitching staff… Williams had his sixth multi-hit game of the season… He also contributed his fourth multi-RBI game of the year… Infante had his 10th multi-hit effort of the season… Basabe also has 10 multi-hit games after a three-hit performance on Friday… Ovalles also had his 10th multi-hit game of the season… Ovalles, Infante, and Basabe are all tied for the most multi-hit games on the team… Basabe had multiple RBIs in a game for the first time this season… Driscoll had his third multi-RBI game of the year… Hiott had two RBIs for the third time in 2022… Every Hot Rods hitter had at least one base-knock in the game… The Hot Rods and Grasshoppers continue their six-game series on Saturday with a 5:30 PM CT first pitch… The Hot Rods will send LHP Patrick Wicklander (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against Grasshoppers RH Domingo Gonzalez (1-2, 8.10)… Fans can listen to the game on Talk 104.1 FM and 930 AM WKCT beginning with the Hot Rods Pregame Show at 6:20 PM CDT… Fans can also listen in via the MiLB First Pitch app on Android and IOS, or go to the Hot Rods website at www.bghotrods.com.
