BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods clinched first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division with a 7-2 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The win ties a franchise record for most wins in a half with 44, which was set in 2016.
RHP Riley O'Brien set the tone for the game in the first inning when he struck out the side, all swinging. In the second inning CF Carl Chester foreshadowed things to come with a fantastic catch up against the wall in right center field in the second inning. Chester lead off the bottom of the second with a ball in play that scored two runs, and was brought home when 3B Jim Haley singled to put the Hot Rods on the board.
Bowling Green broke the game open in the bottom of the third thanks to a two RBI double from Chester and a 1B Devin Davis RBI single to make the score 4-0 Hot Rods. They added on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth when LF Moises Gomez picked up two RBI with a single, and C Ronaldo Hernandez joined the RBI part with a single of his own and the score was 7-0.
O'Brien pitched seven innings in his start and he only allowed two hits, one walk, and recorded eight strikeouts, one short of a career high of nine which he set in his last start.
The TinCaps got on the board in the top of the seventh thanks to a two run home run from DH Nick Feight , but those were the only runs the TinCaps got.
LHP Hunter Schryver pitched the final two innings out of the pen for Bowling Green. He allowed just one walk and struck out four.
The Hot Rods make the trip up to Lake County next for the final series in the first half against the Lake County Captains. Starting pitchers for tomorrow have not been announced and first pitch will be at 6:00pm CST from Eastlake, OH.
