EAST LAKE, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (45-22) won their ninth game in a row, beating the Lake County Captains (29-39) by a 5-2 score this evening at Classic Park. The Captains had five base hits in the game, including two solo home runs, but RHP Tommy Romero picked up his sixth win of the season, and third with the Hot Rods.
In the bottom of the third, 1B Ulysses Cantu hit a solo home run to left field, making it 1-0 Captains.
Bowling Green didn't wait long to respond, as they put up three runs in the fourth. 2B Vidal Brujan , LF Moises Gomez , and C Ronaldo Hernandez each had base knocks in the inning, and CF Carl Chester added a sac fly RBI to center, and the Hot Rods led 3-1 after three and a half innings.
Lake County closed to within one with a solo home run from 3B Nolan Jones in the bottom of the sixth off of RHP Tommy Romero, and it was 3-2 visitors.
The Hot Rods answered in the top of the seventh, when Chester, 3B Adrian Rondon , and DH Mac Seibert each hit doubles, and Bowling Green took a 5-2 lead that turned out to be the final score.
RHP Tommy Romero (6-3, 2.17) picked up the win, and RHP Orlando Romero earned his first save of the season.
The Hot Rods earned their 45th win of the first half, which sets a new franchise record for wins in any half, eclipsing the 44 wins the 2016 team claimed in the second half.
Bowling Green's ninth win in a row is also one shy of a season (and franchise) long 10 game run that occurred from 4/28-5/8 earlier this season.
Tomorrow, the Hot Rods will send out RHP Tobias Myers (7-3, 5.01) for a 6:00pm Central time first pitch at Classic Park. The Captains will counter with RHP Gregori Vasquez (2-2, 3.76).
